Shilling, Dec 8: Mawmluh Cherra Cement Employees Union staged an indefinite hunger strike starting from Tuesday, November 8  following the delay of the state government in addressing the issues of salaries and also urged the government to continue the operations of the factory.

The union has demanded the release of 15 month salary which is 5 months salaries with effect from November 2015 to March 2016 and 10 month salary with effect from February 2020 till date, 7 years overtime with effect from 2013 till date, arrears of pay revision with effect from  April 2018 till date. The union has also demanded the release of medical reimbursement and other welfare activities.

The president of the union, Shanlang Diengdoh said that the union is looking forward to a better future for the staff and employees of the Cement plant.

He said that there are over 500 workers in the plant. “Deciding for the indefinite hunger strike is the last resort to ensure that we get our demands of pending salaries and other dues, for the plant to be functional again be it in any system and the status quo of the union should remain unchanged,” he said.
