Shillong, June 30: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday launched tourism vehicle for tour operators and individual. As part of the scheme, the state government rolled out 12 Innova Crysta.
The pictures from the launch event was shared by CM Conrad Sangma on his social media account.
He informed that the luxury vehicles will provide high quality mobility and will enhance the overall experience of the tourists.
CM also said that 50 individuals were shortlisted by the Tourism Department and groups from over 600 applicants, who had applied for the scheme.
Government is providing a 50 percent subsidy under the scheme, which includes repayment of loan for the next two years, he added.

CM said, “We will be giving a total of 50 vehicles in this financial year, minimum, and depending on the response and utility that we see, we intend to do this every year. So if you do it for the next five years, we expect that we should be having 250 vehicles minimum in the next five years. But our endeavor will be after seeing the demand in the market and the utility of the vehicle and response that we get. We may even increase it to 500 in the next five years.”
“There is a special gap that we’re looking at. So we have done it in the agriculture sector, we have given Mahindra Pick ups to farmers and associations again at a subsidized rate. So, we have also seen that the gap is there in the tourism sector, and it is also financially viable and it makes sense because it’s present job employment, which we have been looking at so similarly in other sectors if we see that opportunity and gap, we’ll be happy to examine it,” he added.
He said this step was taken by the Government, and have rolled out various schemes to promote tourism and providing luxury vehicles to individuals and groups will only add to creating a better ecosystem for the tourism sector.
