SHILLONG. MAR 4: Edmund S. Sangma has resigned as general secretary of the District Congress Committee, West Garo Hills, and renounced his primary membership in the Indian National Congress, effective immediately.
In his letter to the committee president, Sangma wrote, “I have been with this party for over 26 years and am grateful to be part of such a successful political organization. After serious contemplation, I have chosen to leave… to focus on personal affairs.”

He added that excessive commitments left him unable to fulfil his responsibilities.
“I believe it is appropriate to make place for someone who has time and energy.”
The letter was also forwarded to the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president and working president in Shillong.
Sangma thanked the party for the opportunities provided during his tenure.
