Guwahati, Nov 26: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Wednesday led a ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ (Save the Constitution) padyatra in Nagaon, alleging that democratic values and institutions are under “unprecedented threat” under the BJP government.
Carrying the national flag, Congress workers, Seva Dal members, and senior leaders including Pradyut Bordoloi and Rakibul Hussain joined the march, which aimed to raise public awareness about the significance of the Constitution.
APCC president and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi, who led the rally, said the padyatra was part of statewide observances to remind people of the spirit and safeguards enshrined in the Constitution adopted on November 26, 1949.

“Today, when the fourth pillar and various institutions are under attack, when indigenous communities and six ethnic groups of Assam feel threatened, the Constitution gives us strength,” Gogoi told reporters. “There is no real democracy under the BJP. Lawlessness is increasing, and we have come out as soldiers of the Constitution to resist this.”
He added that the party would continue raising its voice against policies it deems harmful to the nation.
