Shillong, Feb 12: The Congress is gearing up to contest all 29 seats in the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, with party chief Vincent H Pala announcing that they will go it alone without any alliances.
“The party will contest from all the 29 seats. We do not have any alliance with other parties. We will fight alone in the upcoming elections,” Pala told reporters on Thursday.
He informed that the party has received 67 applications for tickets, with one withdrawal already and another expected, leaving 65 candidates to be finalized.
“We will announce the candidates the moment the government notifies and announces the election – that is the normal procedure of the party,” Pala said.
The Congress chief also expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness, stating, “We are ready (to face the elections). Our people are on the ground and hopefully we should do well.”
