Shillong, Nov 6: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma flagged off the North Eastern Region Car Rally in Shillong on Monday as part of the Special Outreach Program to celebrate the 75 Glorious Years of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) at the Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong.
While addressing at the event, CM congratulated the NCC for their tireless efforts in nation building and for instilling core values of patriotism in our youth for the past 75 years.
CM also thanked the Maruti Suzuki for sponsoring this event.
“Would love to see this rally not just confined to the Northeastern Region but also give a chance to our youth to explore other parts of India as a whole,” he added.
Conrad also extended his support towards the NCC and highlighted various programmes of the Government, including YESS Meghalaya and Meghalaya Grassroots Program.
“In Season one, we have financially supported 1500 of our youth. And this year, we plan to double that and try to touch about 3000 artists through the Meghalaya Grassroots Program,” he said.
The aim behind this Car Rally is to foster camaraderie among the youth, inspire them towards leadership, and instill a deep sense of patriotism.
Also, this celebration is to personify the spirit of NCC’s values.
Taking to X, CM Conrad shared a series of pictures from the event.
CM wrote, “Flagged off the North Eastern Region Car Rally in Shillong as part of the Special Outreach Program to celebrate 75 Glorious Years of the National Cadet Corps (NCC).”
“Upholding the NCC’s values of leadership, camaraderie and patriotism among our youth, the NER Car Rally will bring together 277 Schools, 151 Colleges, and 44 Districts from across 6 States of the North East,” he added.

At the event, other dignitaries like Metbah Lyngdoh, Chairman of Meghalaya State Planning Board, Major General Gagan Deep, ADG, NCC Directorate Northeastern Region, Ram Suresh Akella, Executive Director of Marketing, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Commissioner Secretary, Director General of Meghalaya Police, District Commissioner East Khasi Hills and other officials of the Armed Forces as well of the State Government were also present.
