Shillong, July 11: The Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO) on Friday urged Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and the Health Department to urgently address the shortage of doctors and nurses at Umsning Community Health Centre (CHC), alleging that the lack of manpower is severely affecting patient care.
Addressing reporters, CSWO secretary Christabell Wanniang claimed that only one doctor and one nurse were on duty at the government-run health centre, making it impossible to effectively manage both emergency cases and the Outpatient Department (OPD).

“It is not possible for two healthcare workers to handle both emergency services and the OPD. Patients are forced to wait for hours before receiving medical attention,” Wanniang said, accusing the government of failing to address the issue despite repeated public complaints.
She said the organisation has received numerous complaints from residents over the shortage of medical personnel and called on the state government to immediately deploy additional doctors and nursing staff to the facility.
The CSWO warned that unless the staffing crisis is resolved, patients in Umsning and surrounding areas will continue to face delays in accessing essential healthcare services.
