Shillong, April 30: The 10 day long containment period to contain the covid-19 in Shillong comes into force from Saturday. Just hours before the restriction, the capital city saw huge rush as people came out in large numbers to buy their essential commodities.

Right from ATMs to liquor shop, people were seen standing in queue to get their stocks before the restriction came into force.

East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo told reporters that 25 percent of the public transport will be allowed on any given day and this apply only to local taxis and autorickshaws.

Informing that the private transport is restricted except for people going out for essential work, health care emergency services and vaccines, the DC said that the Administration will issue inter district, inter-state passes for emergency cases.

Stating that all genuine cases would be issued passes, Laloo informed that laptops, mobile and automobile repairing shops will open on alternative days or 3 to 4 days within this 10 day containment period.

Making it clear that restaurants and eateries are to be closed, she informed that home delivery of food is permitted and even takeaways will not be allowed.

In addition, swimming pools, bars, parlours, salons will be closed and administration has already closed down 10-15 shops for non- compliance

She also informed that shops dealing in essential commodities will be open as per regulation, adding that political, public and social gatherings are not permitted in the district.
