Shillong, April 27: Inspector General of Prisons, M Kharkrang on Tuesday met with health minister AL Hek suggesting all inmates to get the COVID-19 vaccination.
According to Kharkrang there are no COVID-19 inmates and that proper precautions are taken. He also informed that doctors are examining and COVID-19 tests are carried out.
Health minister AL Hek informed that following the meeting with the IG of Prisons he would soon take up the matter since the inmates are in the most vulnerable areas.
When asked if it would be mandatory for inmates to get themselves vaccinated, Kharkrang said that it would not be mandatory they will be given a choice.
It is to be mentioned that last year when several inmates tested positive for COVID-19 and to decongest the jails, the inmates were released on parole or interim bail.
