Shillong, May 23: Speed, strength and school pride were on full display as the State-Level Inter School Athletic Meet 2025 came to an end at SAI NEHU, Shillong on Thursday.
The three-day sporting event, held from May 19 to 22, brought together over 780 young athletes from 12 districts of Meghalaya, battling it out in 48 track and field events.
Organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs in collaboration with the Meghalaya Athletics Association, the meet saw spirited competition, raw talent and a thrilling finish, with East Khasi Hills (EKH) emerging as the undisputed champion.
EKH ruled the podium, bagging 23 Gold, 11 Silver, and 8 Bronze medals and clinched the Best Team titles in both the boys’ (10 Gold) and girls’ (13 Gold) categories. East Jaintia Hills finished runner-up in the boys’ category with 5 Golds, while North Garo Hills secured the girls’ runner-up spot with 3 Golds.
The standout performers were also honoured:
- Under-14 Best Athletes: Rikangku D Sangma (South Garo Hills) and Akangesa A Sangma (West Garo Hills)
- Under-16: Saidul Ali (EKH) and Rukini R.T. Dkhar
- Under-18: Henry Yoga Sangma and Pringchi R Marak (both EKH)
EKH also swept the Best Athlete titles in four boys’ track and field events across the Under-16 and Under-18 categories, underscoring their athletic dominance.
The grand finale was graced by Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma, who hailed the event as a stepping stone toward national-level glory. “Let these medals inspire you to dream bigger, push harder, and aim for the National Games 2027,” he said, while applauding the athletes and organisers.
Also present were senior officials from the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, school authorities, and members of the Meghalaya Athletics Association.
