Shillong, Sept 11: Meghalaya is all set to generate an additional revenue of Rs 90 crore following the government’s approval to the Meghalaya Excise Amendment Rules 2025.
The amendments include reclassification of IMFL brands, introduction of a general brand category, revision of ad valorem on beer, and changes to several rules.
Addressing media persons after a cabinet minister on Thursday, chief minister Conrad K Sangma said IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) brands will be reclassified to ensure more competitive pricing.
A new general brand category will be introduced to provide more options for consumers.
The ad valorem on beer will be revised to make beer prices more competitive.
Several rules, including Rule 44(12), Rule 37(2)(1)(B), Rule 71(a), Rule 273, and Rule 274, will be amended.
“So, this is a step towards ensuring that our pricing is competitive and we expect that with that we will have increased consumption which we expect will also lead to an increase in revenue, our expected revenue increase because of these amendments that we are making is estimated to be Rs 90 crores,” Sangma said.
