Tura, July 1: Meghalaya police bid warm farewell to one of its outstanding IPS officers from the Garo community, Debangshu D Sangma, on his superannuation which took place on Wednesday.
Debangshu Sangma retired from the force after serving Meghalaya police for over two and a half decades. At the time of retirement he was the DIG.
A special farewell programme was organised for Sangma at the district police headquarters in Tura and Meghalaya Director General of Police (FGP) R Chandranathan along with Additional DGs, IGPs and senior officers took part in the farewell function through video conferencing from Shillong headquarters.
The DGP spoke of the dedicated service given by Sangma over the years for the force and the state of Meghalaya.
Another officer, Director of SCRB, D N Jyrwa, was also felicitated during his retirement ceremony in Shillong, on the same day by the DGP.
Debangshu Sangma was among the first Garo officers of Meghalaya police to serve the United Nations PeaceKeeping Force. He served in Kosovo and Bosnia for two terms. A Meghalaya Police Service cadre, he was promoted to the IPS cadre on the strength of his calibre and experience. He held various positions in the Meghalaya police and was district SP of South Garo Hills and south West Khasi Hills. He also led the two oldest police establishments in the state- 1st and 2nd MLP battalions as its commanding officer.
