Longleng, June 20: Longleng district on Saturday launched a mass plantation drive aimed at enhancing green cover and promoting environmental conservation, with officials calling for collective action to build a more climate-resilient future.
The campaign was formally inaugurated with the ceremonial planting of saplings by government officials, community leaders, department heads and representatives of various organisations, reflecting a broad-based commitment to sustainable development.
Speaking at the launch, officials highlighted the importance of afforestation in combating climate change, preserving ecological balance and protecting natural resources. They urged citizens, students and local institutions to actively participate in tree-planting and conservation efforts to ensure lasting environmental benefits.
The district-wide initiative seeks to transform Longleng into a greener and healthier region while raising public awareness about environmental stewardship and the need for sustainable practices.
The programme concluded with the planting of the first batch of saplings, marking the beginning of what authorities described as a long-term mission to expand forest cover and strengthen environmental resilience across the district.
Participants also pledged continued cooperation to make the campaign a success and contribute towards a cleaner and greener Longleng.
