Five dreaded Kuki militants among 12 apprehended in Manipur

Imphal, Oct 4: Security forces have apprehended 12 militants belonging to various outfits from different districts of Manipur, including five cadres of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA).

The arrested UKNA cadres have been identified as Paolenlal Kipgen (30), Kamgoulen (23), Lhunkholen Singson (26), Khaiginpau (37) and Thangzasuan (14).

“We have recovered one M79 grenade launcher with three bombs, two 9mm pistols with five rounds, eight radio sets with four chargers, eight pairs of jungle shoes, three kg of opium seeds, and three mobile phones,” an official said.

Earlier, on October 2, security forces arrested the self-styled Commander-in-Chief of another Kuki militant outfit — the Chin Kuki Mizo Army (CKMA) — Paokholen Guite, from Churachandpur district.

According to officials, Guite was actively involved in trafficking arms and narcotics across the India-Myanmar border for militant groups that have not signed the suspension of operations agreement with the state government. He was also linked to multiple extortion activities.

From his possession, security forces seized two AK-47 rifles with two magazines, 31 rounds of 7.62 AK-47 ammunition, 150 rounds of 7.62 SLR and LMG, ₹1 lakh in cash, a bullet-proof pouch, a vehicle, and two mobile phones.

Security forces have intensified counter-insurgency operations across Manipur in recent weeks.
