Dibrugarh, June 13: A tragic road accident claimed the lives of five people after a Bolero vehicle plunged into a deep gorge in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Kameng district on Saturday.
The victims, all residents of Assam’s North Lakhimpur district, have been identified as Bulbul Hussain, Abdul Hussain, Nur Hussain, Amjat Ali and Saidul Ali.
According to East Kameng Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Chetia, the accident occurred near Seppa while the group was returning from Rilloh after attending the weekly Friday Market.
“The vehicle reportedly lost control and fell into a gorge. Four occupants died on the spot, while one injured person was rushed to District Hospital, Seppa, where he later succumbed to his injuries,” Chetia said.
Preliminary investigations suggest the accident took place between 9 am and 10 am. Officials said the vehicle had left Rilloh earlier in the day and was on its way back to Seppa when the tragedy occurred.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene after receiving information about the crash. During the initial verification, four bodies were recovered from the accident site, while one survivor was found critically injured. Despite efforts to save him, he later died during treatment.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the victims’ families and communities in North Lakhimpur, once again highlighting the dangers of navigating the mountainous roads of the Northeast.
Authorities have launched further inquiries into the circumstances leading to the accident.
