Tura, June 17: Residents of Siju and nearby villages in South Garo Hills continue to face hardships due to the prolonged abandonment and non-functioning of the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) Sub-division Office. In response, the Federation of Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo People (FKJGP), Siju Circle, has urged Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to urgently intervene and restore operations at the office.
In a letter dated June 17, 2025, FKJGP President Saljong D. Sangma and General Secretary Tuwisbirth R. Sangma highlighted the severe inconvenience experienced by locals due to unreliable power services. They noted that earlier appeals, including a letter addressed to the local MLA Rakkam A. Sangma and Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi, on March 21, 2024, have failed to elicit any corrective action.
FKJGP urged the CM for immediate governmental action to alleviate community suffering and restore reliable electricity services in the area.
