Former Congress MLA Noverfield R. Marak joins BJP

Must read

Shillong, Jan 12: Noverfield R. Marak, former Legislature of the Congress party, and Adamkid M. Sangma have joined the BJP after being ignored by the Trinamool Congress for the nomination to run for the North Tura seat.

Rupert M. Sangma, a former MDC, was awarded the party ticket by the TMC, bypassing veteran politician and front-runner Noverfield R. Marak. Before being defeated by Thomas A. Sangma in 2018, Noverfield served as an MLA for five years beginning in 2013.

Along with Noverfield Marak, another party ticket aspirant named Adamkid M. Sangma also joined the BJP. Adamkid had also intended to run in the upcoming elections and had requested the Trinamool party for a ticket.

Noverfield and Adamkid joined the BJP in the presence of BJP leader and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati.

Welcoming the two leaders into the saffron party, Sarma tweeted: “Glad to welcome two prominent leaders of Garo Hills, Meghalaya – Adamkid M Sangma & Noverfield R Marak – to @BJP4India in Guwahati. Their decision to join the BJP was inspired by our party’s strong ideology & Adarniya PM Shri @narendramodi ji’s Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas mantra.”
