Williamnagar, June 25: Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder of Pirot R. Marak, whose body was exhumed from Rengigre village under the Raksamgre Sub-Division in West Garo Hills, Meghalaya, on June 12, 2025.

A postmortem was conducted at the site by Dr. Silang Lama Rongrokgre, Sub-Divisional Medical and Health Officer (Grade I). The report was later submitted to the Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills, Abraham T. Sangma.

According to the findings, Pirot R. Marak died due to strangulation, and both his testicles were found to be severely damaged—confirming it as a case of murder.

SP Abraham T. Sangma confirmed that four suspects were arrested from their village on the morning of June 24. At Tikrikilla Police Station, Officer-in-Charge Rozarius G. Momin provided further details.

The arrested individuals include Nennen R. Marak (wife of the deceased), Sengba R. Marak (younger brother of Nennen), Lepson R. Marak (elder brother of Nennen), and Reknang K. Sangma, who is reportedly in an illicit relationship with Nennen.

All four accused were produced before the court on the afternoon of June 24, which granted three days of police custody. Interrogation is currently underway, according to police officials.

When Hub News spoke to members of the Raksam Mahari (clan), Pirot’s aunt, Premi R. Marak, expressed deep sorrow and demanded justice. “Now that the postmortem confirms it was murder, we strongly believe he was killed in his own home. His body wasn’t found in Tura, Williamnagar, or Raksamgre—it was discovered right in his house. So either his wife and her family are involved, or they know who committed this crime,” she said.

She added, “We demand justice for our late son and our Mahari. We have faith in the police and trust that justice will prevail. This case should serve as an example so that no one dares to commit such a heinous act in the future.”
