Guwahati, July 4: Rail connectivity between Assam’s Barak and Brahmaputra valleys was once again disrupted on Wednesday evening following a fresh landslide between Dihakho and Mupa stations in the vulnerable Lumding–Badarpur hill section. The incident occurred at KM 51/2-3, a notorious stretch prone to landslides during the monsoon season.
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) authorities said train movement has been suspended until the massive debris—comprising boulders and earth—blocking the tracks is cleared. Senior railway officials have reached the site to assess the damage and oversee restoration work.

The latest disruption comes just days after services had resumed following a similar landslide, highlighting the recurring risks that threaten this vital transport corridor. Help desks have been activated at key stations including Guwahati, Lumding, Silchar, Badarpur, and Agartala to assist affected passengers.
A number of trains have been canceled or regulated.
The repeated landslides along this strategic hill section have raised fresh concerns over long-term transport resilience in the region, prompting renewed demands for geological risk assessments and permanent slope stabilization measures.
