Guwahati, Aug 14: Fresh tension escalated along the disputed Assam-Mizoram inter-state border after some unidentified miscreants detonated a moderate intensity bomb in a government school in Assam on Friday midnight, police said on Saturday.

Hailakandi district Superintendent of Police Gaurav Upadhyay, who visited the explosion site, said they are now probing who are behind the explosion.

Three months back, miscreants carried out powerful blasts damaging Muliwala Lower Primary school located under Katlicherra Block in the same Hailakandi district and in June explosion, done by the unknown criminals, damaged Dholakhal Lower Primary school in Cachar district. Both are government run schools and the blasts occurred in the night time.

The Friday night’s incident happened after over two-week of standoff between the two neighbouring states on the inter-state border following the worst-ever violence along Cachar (Assam)-Kolasib (Mizoram) border on July 26 leaving six Assam Police personnel dead and around 100 civilians and security personnel of the two neighbouring states injured.

The fierce border troubles between Assam and Mizoram was tamed only on August 8 after the withdrawal of the ‘economic blockade’ on National Highway 306, ensuring supply of essential goods, transportation of fuel and vital medicines to the mountainous border state.

Before that a ministerial level meeting was held in Aizawl and the central government has deployed huge number of neutral central para-military forces along the troubled inter-state borders.
