Garo group urges Govt to release five months’ pending salaries for Tura Home Guards

Must read

Tura, Sept 30: The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) has appealed the State government for the immediate disbursement of five months’ pending salaries to Home Guards engaged in traffic duties in the Tura region.

In a letter sent to the minister incharge of Civil Defense and Home Guards, Brening A. Sangma, the GSMC Assistant Organising Secretary Nikcheng Ch. Marak highlighted the financial hardship faced by these personnel and their families due to the prolonged delay. The Home Guards, who play a critical role in maintaining law and order in Tura, Meghalaya’s second capital, have not received their rightful dues despite their daily commitment and disciplined service.

“Many of these personnel are struggling to meet basic household needs, pay school fees for their children, and manage daily expenses. Their dedicated service deserves timely recognition and payment,” the letter stated.

The GSMC urged the minister to take urgent action for the sanction and release of the pending salaries on a priority basis stressing that these payments are rightfully owed under the recruitment process.
