Garobadha Water Supply scheme enroute to completion by Dec 2022

Tura, June 24: Work on a crucial life giving water project called the Greater Garobadha Water Supply Scheme (GGWSS) is underway to meet the December 2022 deadline when hundreds of households in dozens of villages in the Selsella and Garobadha region will bear witness to wate flowing from taps directly into their houses.

To keep a check on the progress of the project, Meghalaya PHE Minister, Renikton L.Tongkhar along with Selsella legislator Ferlin A Sangma inspected the work site of GGWSS at Garobadha town, 38 kms from Tura, on Thursday.

Both, the minister and the Selsella legislator visited the dam site and the route of the water flow during their visit.

During his inspection, the PHE Minister informed that the scheme is one of the biggest water supply schemes in the region under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and the sanction amount of the scheme is 107 Crores which when completed is expected to cover about 96 villages of the surrounding areas. Mentioning that even though the project was sanctioned just a few months ago, the progress of the work has been completed about 50 % and therefore, urged all the other contractors also to complete these projects as per the dateline so as to be able to distribute water to every household by December 2022, the Minister informed.
