Shillong, June 9: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong successfully co-hosted the 19th edition of the Global Sales Science Institute (GSSI) Conference from June 3 to 7, bringing together top global minds in sales research and practice to Northeast India.
The academic event, co-organized with Ivy College of Business (USA) and EM Strasbourg Business School (France), saw participation from nearly 50 delegates representing over 13 countries, including France, Germany, Japan, the USA, Austria, and Finland, as well as multiple Indian states.
The conference began with GSSI’s first-ever Doctoral Colloquium on June 3, aimed at fostering collaborative learning among early-career researchers, faculty, and industry experts.
Prof. Basav Roychoudhury, Dean of Research at IIM Shillong, inaugurated the session, urging scholars to “pursue bold academic goals.” GSSI President Prof. Pia Hautamäki emphasized the scientific rigor of sales as a discipline and the pivotal role of doctoral students. Co-chairs Prof. Teidorlang Lyngdoh (IIM Shillong), Prof. Michel Klein (EM Strasbourg), and Prof. Raj Agnihotri (Ivy College of Business) highlighted the colloquium as a milestone for the institute and the global sales community.
The main conference, inaugurated on June 5 at IIM Shillong’s Umsawli campus, featured 36 paper presentations and high-impact sessions on emerging sales topics.
In her welcome address, IIM Shillong Director (I/C) Prof. Nalini Prava Tripathi said, “Sales is about solving real problems and creating value. When backed by science, it becomes a force for societal progress.
The conference concluded with a cultural immersion program on June 7 at Mawphlang Sacred Grove and the Khasi Heritage Village, curated by Meghalaya Tourism Department with support from Hima Mawphlang. Delegates experienced guided forest walks and interacted with local custodians, gaining insights into Khasi ecological traditions and oral heritage.
