Shillong, June 22: The Mawlai Police on Sunday arrested a woman involved in snatching gold earrings from a schoolgirl in the Mawlai area.

The incident came to light after CCTV footage from a house in Mawlai Nongkwar surfaced, showing the act. The video, which went viral on June 21, captured the woman (whose identity is yet to be revealed) stopping a schoolgirl in the evening of June 18, forcibly removing both her gold earrings before fleeing the scene.

Acting on the video evidence, police launched an investigation and managed to arrest the accused.

Police suspect that another woman, believed to be an accomplice, may also be involved in similar cases. The investigation is ongoing to trace her whereabouts.
