Governor’s House in Tura handed over to Raj Bhavan

Tura, Aug 29: The Governor’s House at Tura was formally handed over to Raj Bhavan on Thursday in the presence of senior officials and departmental representatives.

The official handover was carried out by Vibhor Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, and received by Dr. B. D. R. Tiwari, Commissioner & Secretary to the Governor of Meghalaya, who led the advance team from Raj Bhavan, Shillong.

The ceremony was attended by Superintendent of Police Abraham T. Sangma; Joint Secretary to the Governor, A. Lakiang; Assistant Executive Engineer, Raj Bhavan, D. Diengdoh; Executive Engineer, PWD (Building), Tura Sub-Division, C.K. Sangma and Assistant Executive Engineer, PWD (Building), Tura Sub-Division, Dominic Marak among others.

Following the handing over, Dr. Tiwari convened a joint meeting with officials from Agriculture, Horticulture, PHE, PWD (Civil and Electrical), Fire Service, Police (Special Branch), Home Guards, and NCC. The meeting focused on strengthening security, upgrading infrastructure, and ensuring sustainable facilities at the Tura Raj Bhavan campus. Discussions included boundary fencing with barbed wire, improving lighting, conducting fire safety audits, and assessing security measures. Proposals also highlighted uninterrupted power supply with solar alternatives, improved water facilities, and the possibility of a treatment plant.

Dr. Tiwari emphasised greening initiatives, calling for plantation drives to maintain a sustainable environment. He also proposed creating accommodation facilities for NCC personnel within the premises and installing a traditional Garo Borang (tree house) at the entrance to reflect the cultural identity of the local community.

During his inspection, Dr. Tiwari stressed the need to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the Governor’s House through landscaping, gardens, and greenery, ensuring that the campus embodies dignity, culture, and serenity.

He urged all departments to work in close coordination to ensure that the Raj Bhavan in Tura stands as a model of safety, sustainability, and cultural representation.
