Guwahati, Aug 29: Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s two-day visit to Assam is focused on strengthening the BJP’s organisational machinery in Assam and rolling out a series of development projects.
Shah arrived at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Thursday evening, where he was received by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State BJP President Dilip Saikia and senior party leaders amid a warm welcome.
Soon after his arrival, the Home Minister chaired a closed-door meeting of the BJP’s core committee at the party’s state headquarters, where the party’s strategy for Assam was reviewed in detail.
Ahead of his visit, Shah posted on X: “Leaving for Assam on a two-day tour. Today, will chair the BJP’s core committee meeting in Guwahati. In the morning, tomorrow will initiate the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory to bolster cybersecurity in the region, along with various other projects. Later in the day will address the ‘NDA Panchayat Pratinidhi Sammelan’ and the Birth Centenary Celebration of former CM Golap Borbora Ji. Eager to meet the enthusiastic people of Assam.”

The highlight of his visit will be the address at the ‘Panchayat Sammelan’ in Guwahati today, which the BJP views as the formal launch of its campaign for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
Shah will inaugurate the newly constructed Brahmaputra wing of Raj Bhavan, e-inaugurate the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory, and launch multiple projects for ITBP, SSB, and Assam Rifles.
