Tura, Dec 4: Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) along with social activists from South West Garo Hills district filed an FIR against the Mahendraganj Forest Ranges regarding the illegal smuggling of timber from South West Garo Hills district to the State of Assam on Monday.

In their complaint, they mentioned that the South West Garo Hills Forest Ranges have been involved with the smuggling of timber from the South West Garo Hills to the State of Assam by issuing Temporary Permits (Tp).

They also mentioned that temporary permits (TP) are required for the transportation of forest goods within the state and not for the transportation to other states, but the forest officials are randomly issuing TP without inquiring into the matter.
