Imphal, May 5: Intense rain and cyclonic hailstorm struck Manipur at around 1:30 pm on Sunday. The rains were accompanied with hailstones which lasted for about 15 minutes, but have caused severe damage to homes and plantation in Imphal valley.
Manipur CM N. Biren Singh took to social media to urge the residents affected by the hailstorm to contact their district commissioner with photos of the damage for assistance.
The hailstorm was so powerful that parts of the valley were blanketed with 4-5 inches of hail, resembling a landscape covered in thick snow.
Responding to the natural calamity, the government of Manipur has issued an
urgent assistance alert.
The state govt has stated, “in the wake of the recent hailstorm that impacted several areas across Manipur, our priority is to ensure swift assistance for those in need. To extend support, we’ve established helpline numbers in various districts” .
