Indian Railways Removes Geo-Fencing Restrictions on UTS Mobile App

Must read

Guwahati, May 5: In a move to enhance passenger convenience and promote digitization, Indian Railways announced the withdrawal of the outer limit of geo-fencing restrictions on the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) mobile application.

This initiative aims to encourage contactless ticketing and cashless transactions and improve the overall customer experience while booking tickets.

Prior to this change, passengers were unable to book unreserved and platform tickets within a 20 to 50 km radius of a station due to geo-fencing restrictions. Now, commuters can book tickets from any location to any destination using the UTS mobile app from the comfort of their homes. However, passengers are required to reach the station premises within two hours of booking their tickets.

To further incentivize the use of the UTS mobile app, passengers will receive a 3% bonus when recharging their R-Wallet for unreserved ticket bookings through the application. This move is expected to reduce long queues at ticket counters and encourage users to adopt digital booking procedures, thereby enhancing overall efficiency.

It is important to note that while passengers can now book tickets from anywhere, they will still be unable to book tickets via the app once inside the station premises.

The removal of geo-fencing restrictions on the UTS mobile app is a significant step towards the digitization of Indian Railways’ ticketing system, offering greater convenience and flexibility to passengers across the country.
