Shillong, July 9: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar on Wednesday said the process of relocating hawkers has started, with the aim of regulating traffic and ensuring smooth movement of people.
Speaking to reporters, Dhar said the government is also working on finalizing parking lots, with several locations identified, including near the secretariat and Motphran.
According to him, the goal is to regulate traffic and ensure smooth movement of people.
Asked, Dhar clarified that the government is not experimenting with parking but rather legalizing it, with a clear parking policy in place.
He said several parking lots are being developed, with over 1,000 vehicles expected to be accommodated. Some parking lots are expected to be ready soon, including ones near the secretariat, Motphran, and Polo market.
He informed that the Union Finance Minister is expected to inaugurate the Polo market tomorrow at 3:30 pm.
