SHILLONG, DEC 16: The Meghalaya High Court has directed the state government to notify the Pension Scheme for employees of deficit grant-in-aid colleges within four weeks, emphasizing that any deviation would be detrimental to the interests of the employees.
The court was hearing a writ petition filed by the Meghalaya College Teachers Association and another by the Greater Phulbari Area Deficit School Retired Teachers & Employees Association, seeking implementation of the Pension Scheme.
The state government informed the court that a Portfolio Manager has been appointed and approval for withdrawal of funds has been conveyed, and the draft Pension Scheme is being finalized.
“We direct the State to complete the finalization of the Scheme and to notify the Pension Scheme positively within four weeks from date,” the division bench comprising Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice HS Thangkhiew said in its order passed on Monday.
It has also ordered the state government to file its compliance report on January 28, 2026.
