SHILLONG, APR 19: BJP leader and Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek on Saturday offered the party’s ticket to former chief secretary Donald P Wahlang to contest the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha byelection.
“I attended a felicitation programme for Wahlang and mentioned that now that he is retired, he is free to work. I offered to give him the ticket to contest the upcoming by-election if he wishes to contest,” Hek said.
He was speaking after attending a felicitation programme for Wahlang organised by the All Meghalaya Primary School Teachers Association at Nongmensong on Saturday.
Wahlang retired as chief secretary of Meghalaya last year.
The Shillong Lok Sabha seat is lying vacant following the death of former VPP Shillong MP Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon on February 19.
Recently, Hek had also revealed that cabinet minister and South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai is among the five names recommended to the party’s central leadership for the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha bye-election, and expressed confidence that the BJP will win the seat.
“We have proposed his name this time as number one. He (Sanbor) will be fittest candidate especially him being a cabinet minister to fight for this MP byelection. Because everybody will support Sanbor and we will ensure that we will work very hard to ensure he wins the byelection this time,” Hek had stated.
Expressing confidence, Hek had said, “No doubt, BJP is going to win this byelection.”
