SHILLONG, MAR 4: BJP legislator AL Hek on Wednesday reiterated that Meghalaya’s reservation policy should prioritise families below the poverty line and those with no government employees.
“I am repeating what I raised in the Assembly…if they review reservation, they must ensure it covers BPL families, especially those where not a single member has a government job,” Hek told reporters.

“After that, whether it’s 40‑40‑20, I have no problem. I will stand by my point — reservation should go to poor families who’ve never got jobs. The government should provide them special reservation.”
He admitted he had not seen the expert committee’s report and missed the Assembly debate due to health issues.
“…if they consider this point — give special reservation so these families too can get government jobs,” he added.
