Shillong, May 12: The Hid Foundation Shillong has once again urged the Government of Meghalaya to expedite the formation of the proposed Meghalaya Admission and Fee Regulatory Commission.
In a press note issued on May 12, the organisation said it had submitted a letter on May 11 to Commissioner and Secretary of the Education Department Vijay Kumar Mantri (IAS), requesting the department to fast-track the establishment of the commission. The foundation stated that the latest communication was a follow-up to its earlier memorandum submitted on April 24.
According to the organisation, the proposed legislation should be introduced under the title Meghalaya Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Prohibition of Capitation Fee) Act, 2026. It also called for the notification of the Meghalaya Admission and Fee Regulatory Commission Rules, 2026, which would apply to all educational institutions in the state, including government and private institutions.
The foundation stated that the proposed Act and regulatory commission are aimed at ensuring equitable access to quality education and rational fee structures for students across Meghalaya, while also prohibiting capitation fees.
The organisation further appealed to the general public, particularly parents, to support the demand, stating that the objective was to ensure access to quality and equal education for all citizens.
The Hid Foundation also sought an early and positive response from the Education Department on what it described as a matter of public interest.
