Shillong, Jan 30: The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) on Monday conducted an awareness programme and car rally to highlight the importance of electoral transparency in the upcoming assembly elections, to be held on February 27.

The car rally saw hundreds of HITO members and the public marching from Lad Smit via Laitkor, Madanriting, Fire Brigade Point, St Edmund’s School, Dhankheti and Civil Hospital Point and concluded at Motphran.

Speaking at the awareness program at Motphran, president of HITO Donbok Dkhar said since the election is near, it is important for the organization as a responsible pressure group to come out and educate and remind the public on the failure of the state government in the last five years.

Dkhar stressed on the importance of electing a quality representative who will work for the betterment of the people as a whole once he/she is elected to the state assembly.

“As a responsible pressure group, we have not come to politicize any issue but we have come to speak and create awareness among the public to not be misled by any candidates or political parties and to vote righteously in order to have a strong government post the election,” he said.
