Shillong, July 19: In a surprise inspection early this morning, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Northern Region, intercepted several vehicles transporting live fish into Meghalaya without valid documents, particularly trading licenses.
The operation was carried out at Byrnihat, where the HNYF found multiple vehicles coming from Assam that failed to produce the necessary paperwork. None of the vehicles were owned by local Khasi individuals; instead, they were operated by non-locals allegedly using Khasi names to bypass regulations.

The HNYF has issued a strong warning to such traders, urging compliance with state rules. It also called on the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to take strict action against those operating without proper licenses, citing the negative impact on local livelihoods.
