Shillong, Feb 5: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) women’s wing on Friday demanded the Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) to fill up the vacant posts in view of the growing unemployment faced by local youths of the state.
Speaking to media persons, HNYF women’s wing president Bety Jyrwa said that they have met the Managing Director (MD) to know the reason behind the corporation’s failure to publish any job advertisement in the MTC for the past five years since 2017.
“The MD however, informed that the inability of the corporation to create new job spaces was due to financial constraint,” she added.
Jyrwa said that the many employees who are about to retire are facing difficulties as the department cannot afford to pay their salary.
She however slammed the corporation for appointing retired officers from various departments in the MTC instead of paving way for new recruitment.
“Therefore, we demand the MTC to immediately fill up the vacant posts in the best interest of the local unemployed youth,” she said.
Meanwhile, Jyrwa said that they would soon meet the transport minister Dasakhiat Lamare for his intervention into the need to remove retired officers from the different posts in the MTC.
