Tura, April 16: As per the directive of the Governor of Meghalaya, it is hereby announced that all Government Offices and educational institutions in West Garo Hills District will remain closed on 19th April, 2024. This closure is to facilitate the participation of voters in the General Election to the Lok Sabha 2024.

Additionally, industrial undertakings and establishments governed by the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, as well as shops and establishments operating in shifts will also observe this holiday. Employees, including daily wage and casual workers, even those working outside their constituency, are entitled to a paid holiday as stipulated under Section 135 (B) of the Representation of the Peoples Act, 1951.

This ensures that all eligible voters have the opportunity to exercise their franchise without loss of remuneration on the polling day.

This was informed by the District Magistrate, West Garo Hills, Tura.
