Shillong, Feb 5: A massive house fire broke out at Lumdewsaw, Mylliem on Saturday morning. Within no time, the assam type house was gutted in flames completely, resulting in the loss of property of at least Rs. 15 lakhs. No casualties were reported.
The owner, Babita Kharkongor, on speaking to Hub News, said that the incident happened at around 11 am when everyone was busy with their daily schedule. “It happened at around 11 am, we were all outside but the only person inside was my father, as he was sick but he escaped in time.”
As major portion of the structure of the house is made of wood, fire spread rapidly resulting in a huge property loss in the incident. The fire is suspected to have started from the kitchen area and rapidly spread to other rooms but it couldn’t be confirmed whether the fire started from the hearth or due to electrical issues, said the owner.
Khorkongor informed that the fire service could not reach on time as the road is too narrow.
NPP MDC Mitchel Wankhar immediately arrived on scene and assured all help to the victim.
