Guwahati, Aug 14: Assam Police recovered a huge cache of ammunition concealed underground in the Kalabari area of South Salmara-Mankachar district.
Following a credible tip-off, the South Salmara-Mankachar police launched an operation led by Additional Superintendent of Police Pratap Das. During the search operation, several rounds of ammunition wrapped in polythene were unearthed from a hidden location.
The seized items include 12 rounds of 7.6mm SLR bullets, three rounds of .303 rifle bullets, three rounds of 5.56mm INSAS bullets, and seven rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 bullets.
“We have seized the items and a detailed investigation is underway to identify their source and the individuals responsible for concealing the ammunition,” said a police official.
Following the recovery, police across South Salmara-Mankachar have been put on alert and are taking all possible measures to prevent any untoward incidents.
