Shillong, Aug 14: A theatrical production on the life of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, titled Rashtraputra, was staged on Thursday at the DGAR auditorium in Laitkor, Shillong. The event was organised by the Rashtriya Jagriti Sansthan in collaboration with the P A Sangma Foundation.
Performed by the theatre group of the Netaji Institute of Skill Development, the play vividly brought to life the struggles and ideals of one of India’s most revered national heroes. Beyond imparting vocational skills, the institute seeks to build character and instil patriotism among the youth through theatre.
James P K Sangma, representing the P A Sangma Foundation, said the foundation supports such initiatives because nationalism and unity are strengthened not only by remembering national heroes but by understanding what they stood for — justice, equality, and a free India for all.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who attended the event on the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day, said the occasion was especially meaningful. “Plays can bring history to life, making it more engaging, especially for the youth,” he remarked, adding, “Let us draw inspiration from the indomitable spirit of Subhas Chandra Bose.”
He stressed the importance of portraying the stories of freedom fighters to educate today’s youth about the sacrifices and unwavering commitment these leaders had for the nation. “Our freedom is hard-earned and we should always be reminded of the sacrifices of our leaders, for whom we live an independent life today,” he said.
The play not only served as a tribute to Bose’s life and legacy but also preserved the essence of India’s history, inspiring patriotism and fostering a sense of national unity and shared heritage. At the end of the performance, the Chief Minister felicitated the actors for their impactful portrayal.
