SHILLONG, JUL 12: In a major boost to the National People’s Party ahead of the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election, hundreds of Congress supporters from Mairang joined the NPP on Saturday and declared support for party candidate Dr DRL Nonglait.
The induction took place during a public meeting organized by the NPP in Mairang.
The group was led by R Nongseij, President of the Mairang Block Congress Committee.

Speaking at the event, the new entrants said they had decided to leave the Congress and extend full support to Dr Nonglait for the upcoming by-election to the Shillong Parliamentary seat, which is expected to be announced soon by the Election Commission.
“This is a clear sign that the NPP is growing day by day and is receiving support from people across Khasi and Jaintia Hills,” they said.
“We will work hard for Dr Nonglait.”
NPP leaders present at the meeting said people were now looking for stable governance aligned with development.
“People have realized the need for a government that works in tandem with development initiatives to uplift the state,” an NPP leader said.
The leaders added that voters were no longer swayed by rhetoric aimed at turning public opinion against the government.

“People now understand they should not be misled. Instead, they should unite and place their trust in the NPP, which has brought many development projects and changes to the state,” they said.
With the by-election drawing closer, Dr Nonglait has been witnessing increasing public support across the Khasi and Jaintia Hills regions, party leaders said.
