If things were done correctly… : Mukul on Congress

Must read

Shillong, Feb 16: All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader and former Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma on Tuesday expressed that if things had been done correctly, things would have been much better for the Indian National Congress (INC) at present.

While he did not comment on the current turmoil in the Congress, he said the overall ‘political dynamics’ of the state will unfold in the coming months which will give everyone an idea of political situation before the 2023 assembly elections.

Stating that politics is the toughest job, he said one has to acclimatize to the challenges that are inherent in running a political party like the Congress, in such a vibrant democracy with diverse potentialities.

“It is a question of having an in-depth understanding about the kind of pulls and pushes as political parties face all the time and how we realign our approach to deal with situations, to deal with the challenges,” he added.

On the situation in the Congress, he said he is now only an observer from outside as far as affairs of Congress are concerned. He also said that it is up to the five legislators to respond to queries.

In December last year, Dr. Sangma along with 11 MLAs quit the Congress and merged with the AITC. They have alleged that the AICC had sidelined the CLP while appointing the new president of the MPCC.

MPCC suspends Cong MLAs

The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Monday suspended the five Congress MLAs on grounds of anti-party activity after they extended support to the BJP-backed Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.

Show cause notices were also served to the 5 legislators asking them to reply within a period of 10 days as to why they should not be expelled from the party.
