Incomplete GSWSS-III project behind Shillong’s water wail, says Minister

Must read

SHILLONG, DEC 3: The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Marcuise N Marak has attributed the water shortage in Shillong to the incomplete distribution portion of the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS-III).

“Actually, I don’t know the reason why there is a shortage. It could be because GSWSS-III is yet to be commissioned,” Marak said, adding that testing has been done from the damsite to the treatment plant, and an additional 8MLD of water has reached the treatment plant at Mawphlang.

However, the distribution portion, which includes 12 zones, is still under progress in some localities.

“Might be because that distribution portion of the GSWSS is yet to complete and because of that people might be suffering and getting less water,” Marak explained.

The minister expressed hope that once GSWSS-III is completed, the city will receive sufficient water supply.

“As soon as GSWSS-III completes, we are hopeful to provide enough water to Shillong city,” he said.
