The couple – Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi – had gone missing in Sohra on May 23, 2025, during their honeymoon. The case that has spanned over 16 days, deepened when Raja’s body was recovered from a deep gorge in Sohra on the 10th day (June 2) along with a machete. But Sonam remained untraceable.

Additionally, Sonam Raghuvanshi also voluntarily surrendered at the Nandganj Police Station in Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh, and is currently in the safe custody of the Uttar Pradesh Police.

“This outcome is the result of round-the-clock efforts by the Meghalaya Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), supported by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local intelligence units, and law enforcement agencies across multiple states. Despite geographical and logistical challenges, and sustained public and media scrutiny, our teams remained steadfast in their commitment to upholding the rule of law,” said Dr. S.R. Marak, Asstt. Inspector General of Meghalaya Police, in a press statement on Monday morning.
He further reaffirmed the Meghalaya Police’s commitment to delivering justice with integrity, professionalism, and perseverance.
He also expressed gratitude to the families, the citizens of Meghalaya, and inter-state counterparts for their cooperation and support throughout the complex investigation.
He said further updates will be shared as legal proceedings advance.
Earlier, Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang informed that four persons, including wife, have been arrested in connection with Indore man’s murder. The DGP said the wife had allegedly hired killers to kill her husband.
Mentionably, following the discovery of Raja’s body and establishing that it was a murder, Meghalaya police had formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by SP City to investigate the case.
