Rajesh Goutam finished as the first runner-up with a score of 149, while Rashidul secured the second runner-up position with 151.

Speaking after his victory, Johnwell expressed gratitude to God and acknowledged the unwavering support of his wife, Jeeta D. Sangma, crediting her encouragement for allowing him to dedicate long hours to golf practice.

He also thanked his friend Dr Jitendra Tripura, who travelled from Agartala to compete alongside him. Johnwell described the tournament as highly competitive, noting the participation of golfers from the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) Feeder Tour, including multiple tournament winners. He said this reflects the rising standard of golf in the Northeast and called it a healthy competition that motivates local golfers to work harder.

Johnwell extended his appreciation to the Tura Golfers Association for their consistent support throughout his golfing journey.

He further acknowledged the support of the Meghalaya Government, particularly Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, recalling that encouragement was extended to him as early as 2018, during the Chief Minister’s first month in office. He also thanked MIDC Chairman James Sangma for facilitating his registration with the National Golf Academy of India (NGAI) for a C Certification coaching course last year, which he said reflects the government’s commitment to nurturing sportspersons.

Highlighting the role of the Meghalaya Games, Johnwell said the platform has been instrumental in providing athletes with opportunities to compete against the best in the state and showcase their talent.

He also expressed gratitude to Sports Director Dikki Sangma and the staff of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs for their continued support and assistance.

Looking ahead, Johnwell said he is highly motivated by the upcoming 39th National Games, which will be hosted by Meghalaya. Calling it a major advantage to compete on home soil, he said he plans to intensify his training and is confident that with sustained effort and rigorous practice, he can win a medal for the state.
