Shillong, Oct 11: The Jaintia Students Union Shillong Circle (JSU-SC) has urged the state government to strengthen and activate Local Defence Organisations (LDOs) across the state, following the recent cases of child murders that have sent shockwaves through the community.
In a letter submitted to Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home Prestone Tynsong, the JSU-SC expressed deep concern over the repeated incidents, which have caused fear and anxiety among parents and local communities.
The union suggested that LDOs, when properly coordinated with the police, can play a vital role in maintaining law and order, supporting night patrols, and reporting suspicious activities.
“The active involvement of LDOs would greatly help in safeguarding our communities and preventing further unfortunate incidents,” said JSU Adviser A. Suchiang.
The JSU-SC has called upon the government to take necessary steps to reactivate and ensure the proper functioning of LDOs to ensure the safety and security of citizens, especially children.
