Justice Somadder inaugurates the district court at Baghmara

Baghmara, Dec 17 : The Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, Justice Biswanath Somadder, inaugurated the District and Sessions Court in Baghmara, the district headquarters of South Garo Hills in the presence of the Law Minister, James PK Sangma, Siju-Rongara MLA, Rakkam A Sangma, Justice HS Thangkiew, Judge of the High Court of Meghalaya, the Commissioner and Secretary of the Law Department, Wilfred Khyllep, the Deputy Commissioner of South Garo Hills, HB Marak, Superintendent of Police, Priyangshu Pandey and other dignitaries.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Justice Somadder said that it was on this day that the separation of judiciary from the executive in the district was complete and lauded the efforts of all concerned to see the functioning of the constitution in the district and said that it was the culmination of the executive from exercising the judicial powers, the pillars of democracy. He also informed the people of the region that with the inauguration of the court, there will be easier access to the judicial process and sought the cooperation of all the stakeholders.

The Law Minister, James PK Sangma, while saying that South Garo Hills is the last district to see the separation of judiciary from the executive said that with the inauguration of the court, the tenets of good governance is expected in the district.

On the day, the Commissioner and Secretary of Law Department, Wilfred Khyllep,  read out the notification relating to separation of judiciary from the executive in South Garo Hills.

The judicial officials who will be manning the district court are Isormon Rymbui, the District and Sessions Judge,  TTM Sangma, the Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, South Garo Hills, and Rikchame Dachi Sangma as the first-class Judicial Magistrate.

The others who spoke on the occasion included Rakkam A Sangma, HS Thangkiew, South Garo Hills DC, HB Marak, and the ADC, Judicial, MT Sangma.
