SHILLONG, SEP 24: First time Voice of the People Party (VPP) MDC from Langkyrdem-Laitkroh Shemborlang Rynjah on Wednesday stepped down as chief executive member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
This came after the VPP-led executive committee has just completed its seven months tenure.
“I am writing to inform you that I am resigning from my position as chief executive member of the KHADC on this day the 24th September 2025. After careful consultation, I have come to the conclusion that due to my current health situation, it’s in the best interest for both my well-being and the office that I decided to resign,” Rynjah said in his resignation letter submitted KHADC chairman Strong Pillar Kharjana.

KHADC EM and VPP spokesperson Powell Sohkhlet announced that Rynjah has stepped down due to health concerns.
“Although it’s difficult for us to accept this decision, prioritizing his well-being is essential,” Sohkhlet said.
He also informed that the meeting of the VPP parliamentary party will be convened very soon to determine the next steps for the election of a new CEM for KHADC, ensuring a smooth transition.
Asked, Sohkhlet said, “We totally leave it to the wisdom of the party to decide on the new leadership in the KHADC.”
Rynjah was elected unopposed as KHADC chief on February 28.
