Shillong, Sept 19: NPP legislator from Kharkutta and Chairman of MNREDA Rupert Momin has lauded Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s decision to induct Resubelpara legislator Timothy D Shira as a new minister in the cabinet.

Speaking to media persons on Friday, Momin said that after a gap of 15 years, North Garo Hills district finally has a minister to look after its needs.

Momin highlighted the need for better road connectivity in the district.

According to him, while some roads are in better condition, others require immediate attention.

He said the Mendipathar to Songsak road, built using German technology, is in need of repair due to heavy truck traffic related to the railway station. Resubelpara to 100-bed Hospital Road still requires new road construction.

On the Kharkutta to Darangiri and Mendipathar to Krishnai Road, Momin said some portions of these roads are yet to be repaired, affecting the transportation of local produce like bananas, arecanut, and broomsticks.

He informed that Adokgre to Mangsang road has been completed, while the Mendipathar to Songsak road is in the pipeline and has already been sanctioned.

Momin expressed hope that with Timothy D Shira’s induction as minister, the district’s road connectivity issues will be addressed.

He added that the government is working to connect main villages with good roads within the next two years.
